Wether waiting for daddy to take him to "Old McDonald"
Wetherill celebrated his 4th birthday with his favorite breakfast (eggs!), a spotlight on him on preschool, and a special lunch with daddy.

He's holding an airplane he made at school that day

Back from lunch!  Wether took a few breaks from the playground to eat some fries, but mostly he played.

Kjell made the boys an igloo earlier in the week

It's at the end of our cul-de-sac where the snowplow piled up the snow.

Wether invited his preschool class and Sunday school class to his 4th birthday party.  All were able to attend, so we had a house full of Superheroes!  First the kids colored superheroes while we waited for everyone to arrive.  Next we did a length obstacle course in the basement.  I bought a large green glowstick for our next activity.  The rules are the same as hot potato, but the hot potato is the glowstick (kryptonite!).  The kids then ran upstairs to eat pizza.  Kjell kindly made toast for the children who didn't like pizza.  When they were done eating, I brought out a huge bowl of candy, but a villian (Kjell) snuck up behind me and stole it!  He hid all the candy in the basement, but fortunately, the little Superheroes recovered it all and added it to their goodie bags.  The kids watched a few minutes of Incredibles before eating cake and ice cream and opening presents.  The birthday boy had a great time!  When I asked Wether which part of the party he liked best, he said "opening presents".

Keep your eye on Port...he managed to open one of WWs gifts when he wasn't looking.

We went to 3 Chinese New Year Celebrations this year.  The whole family went to Lehi High School for some cultural activities and food.  Kjell and I went to a Chinese New Year themed dinner for adults at our church and I took Marcus to an even at Orem High School that included face painting, dinner, and dancing.

Tracie (Pam's sister) is visiting from Minnesota while Pam is at a conference in Washington D.C.  She joined us for lunch on Sunday and we visited her one night during the week.  The kids ate pizza and Tracie and I cooked up some shish-kabobs.

I was thrilled to hear that cousin Hallie's training for her new job in Florida was in Salt Lake City!  We got together the day she arrived.  First we headed to City Creek where we walked around and ate dinner at the Red Iguana (thank you Uncle Greg & Aunt Molly).  Next I insisted on dessert at Kneaders (a chain of bakery's in Utah).  Our meal and dessert took hours since Hallie and I had so much to catch up on.  Lastly we headed to the Down East Home Clearance Center - homage to our bargain-shopping heritage and my favorite store!

Hallie was able to use the rental car she shared to drive down to Orem on Wednesday night for dinner.  We enjoyed chicken-poppy seed casserole, rice, salad and lemon bars for dessert.  Hallie also gave Uncle Greg and Aunt Molly a tour of the house via the iPad.  The boys were all happy to perform for the iPad as well - Marcus and Holden played the piano, Wetherill danced, and Port pointed to body parts.  The highlight for the boys was when Hallie gave them all real sharks teeth found on the beaches of South Florida (mostly by Uncle Greg!)  Marcus woke up early the next morning to make a necklace out of one of his shark teeth and was very proud to wear it to school.

It was such a joy to spend time with Hallie.  Kjell and and I are recommitted to visiting Florida as soon as we can!

We met up with the Fraziers at Sundance on a beautiful Saturday in March.  We were also able to ski with our friend Renita for a few runs in the morning (she's an instuctor at Sundance and hooked us up with half-price tickets - thanks!)  The day was ideal including a nice lunch in the sunshine before a few final runs.

Easter

Saturday:
Port and I picked up Grandma from the airport in the afternoon.  I told Port to run to Grandma when we saw her, which he did, but then he got a little scared.  We went straight from the airport to Trader Joe's where we stocked up on goodies for the week.  Next we headed to the Down East Home Clearance Center for a little shopping, then to Orem.  Marcus, Holden, and Weather were at a birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese, so we stopped there and joined the party for a bit before heading home.  After getting the kids in the bed, mom and Kjell stuffed Easter eggs while I put together everyone's Easter baskets and hid them.

Easter Sunday:
The boys rose bright and early in search of their Easter baskets.  Grandma and Kjell were suprised to find that there were Easter baskets hidden for them too.  Next, I got the boys dressed in there Easter outfits, which included pink bowties that I made for them earlier in the week.  After church, a friend took some pictures for us.  Pam came over later in the afternoon and took the boys for a walk while we hid the seemingly endless supply of Easter eggs, inlcuding a few Golden Eggs with money inside.  The children excitedly and tirelessly gathered them all and immediately opened each egg.  Uncle Joshua joined us for our delicious Easter feast of ham, potatoes, salad, rolls, and jello (the latter 3 brought by Pam).  We went on a leisurely Sunday stroll before heading back home to sample the New York cheesecake I had made a few days prior - delish!

Monday:
This was the first of many dentist appointments for mom - one of the reasons for her visit.  While she was gone I put all of the Easter decorations/eggs away.  It was a rainy day, so we mostly stayed inside and recovered from the day before!

Tuesday:
Another rainy day.  We arrived at IKEA a few minutes after it opened and let the older boys play at the daycare while mom, Port, and I shopped.  We bought some fun sheets, bedding, and pillows for Wether's room.  Kids ate free during Spring Break, so we had a nice lunch and then headed to the D.I. in American Fork.  That afternoon Grandma took Marcus to pick out his birthday present.  They couldn't find anthing at Target or Saver's, but brought home lots of goodies from the Dollar Store.  Later Grandma bought Marcus some neat books from Costco that he has really enjoyed.

Wednesday:
This was a very pretty day.  The boys played outside for hours and I even got the pool out so they could slide off the trampoline into the pool.  My friend Ashley brought her kids over to play and the kids had a picnic outside while we enjoyed egg salad sandwiches.

Thursday:
Mom had 3 dentist appointments!  Fortunately, she was able to get quite a bit of dental work done during her visit, although one tooth had to be pulled (she'll be back in 6 months for the implant).  That night, Kjell watched the kids while mom and I went to Zupa's for soup and then did some shopping at D.I. in Provo.

Friday:
Mom babysat the kids all morning while I went to the temple with the Relief Society sisters.  I made dinner that evening for our last night night together.  Pam and Kjell joined us later for dessert and games.

Saturday:
We listened to conference on our way to Salt Lake City to visit mom's visiting teacher from when she lived in New Canaan, Nancy Allen.  We had a nice visit with Nancy and was able to see where they will be building their new home.  After saying goodbye, I drove mom to the airport.

Viva Las Vegas

Last month I bought a Groupon to stay at the Cancun Resort in Las Vegas.  We hoped to go over Spring Break, but with mom's visit and Marcus' birthday, it worked out better to go a week later.

Wednesday:
I spent all morning packing, organizing, cleaning, etc.  I checked Marcus out of school at 1pm, which was a huge perk for him.  He was extremely excited, as were the other boys.  It took us 6 hours to get to get to Las Vegas, with a stop for dinner.  The hotel room had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen.  There was also a large balcony with views of the strip.  As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we headed down to the pool and swam for about an hour.  The hot tubs where cool enough for kids to go in them, which was a great way to warm up!

Thursday:
Marcus and I woke up before everyone else and watched the sunrise from the balcony.  We made eggs, bacon, toast, and yogurt for breakfast.  We left for the strip around 8am.  The boys were in awe of all the hotels as we drove down the strip.  We parked and walked for about an hour checking out the holels and the M&M store.  By 10am, we were on our way to the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus.  We all went on rides for a couple of hours before heading back to our hotel for lunch.  Marcus and Kjell even went on the double-looped roller coaster!  I took the boys to the pool after lunch while Kjell and Port rested.  The resort brought out "pool toys" including guns and diving rings, which kept Marcus, Holden and Wether occupied for quite a while.  Marcus and Holden went down the water slides as well (Wether really wanted to but he wasn't tall enough...I had to bribe Holden with gummy bears).  The older boys had some quiet time before we went to the "kids arcade" at the resort to color, play with blocks, shoot basketballs, and play with lots of other toys.  Lastly, we headed across the street to Chili's for dinner.

Friday:
I packed up our stuff first thing in the morning, which gave us plenty of time to play in the pool before our 10am check-out.  Even early in the morning, it was warm and beautiful.  Next we headed to the Hoover Dam, about 30 minutes south of Las Vegas.  By noon we were on our way to St. George, Utah.  I thought we would rest at our hotel for a bit, but the boys were jumping off the walls of our much smaller hotel room, so we almost immediately left for a hike at Red Cliffs Desert Reserve.  This excursion ended up being a gorgeous hike and highlight of the trip.  On our next visit, we'll go on a much longer hike.  We ate at Cracker Barrel for dinner then headed back to the hotel for a dip in the pool before bedtime.

Saturday:
The Birthday Boy was the first one up and was ready to open his gifts!  He got an Orbeez Magic Maker, Magic Set, and build your own pirate ship kit, as well as a Swiss Army Knife from dad.  We then went to garage sales!  The kids each got a small toy and we found some pretty framed prints of Paris.  Famous Footwear was our next stop for Marcus to pick our a new pair of shoes.  He chose some black and bright orange Nikes.  Back at our hotel we swam in the pool for a while before packing up our bags and heading home.  We stopped at a McDonald's in Beaver, Utah where I ran into my old YWs leader from New Canaan!  It was wonderful to catch up with the Neider Family who was on their way to Las Vegas.  As we exited the freeway in Orem, Wether started crying that he wanted to go back to Las Vegas.  "Home is not good for me."  "We need to go back."  "Turn the car around."  We were back in time for Marcus to make it to his first baseball practice in the rain.

We went to dinner at the Halls on Sunday, where we sang to Marcus and ate cake and ice cream.  Marcus chose pumpkin cobbler for his "cake".

The boys watching the tractor load the remains of the shed into the dumpster on a cold spring morning.
We certainly have a great yard for little boys - an abandoned shed, potholes, and a dirthill!  Still, it was with much anticipation that we awaited the work crew to come level and grade our yard.  They're not completely finished, but it's hard to recognize our backyard!  There's much work yet to be done, although it's a lot easier to envision the final outcome with a blank slate.

Wether was kindly given a ride in the tractor!  He got to drive and lift the loader bucket.

At first Port was scared and ran away when he saw Wether get into the tractor but soon he was begging for a turn.  The driver thought he would cry but he remained stony faced.

Wether watched the men work for days.  Here he is in the loader bucket.

Baptism Day!

Today Marcus was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  It was a special day surround by friends and family, although we greatly missed Grandma Ruby who was planning on coming until recently.  She understandably opted to postpone her trip although Grandma was certainly there in spirit!  Marcus kept asking me to video tape his baptism, him playing the piano and him speaking Chinese - all things Grandma had mentioned in his birthday card that she wanted to see.  We'll get on that!  Sister Frazier gave a beautiful talk about the Holy Ghost to the four children in our stake getting baptized today and their families.  She gave a wilderness survival analogy and thus spoke of compasses, matches, whistles and such in her talk.  During a pause Holden exclaimed loudly "Marcus has a knife too!"  After the baptism (Wether really wanted a turn) and confirmation, we took some pictures and then immediately changed at the church and brought the boys to their various sports games (Holden to soccer and Marcus to baseball).  At lunch time, we picked up Marcus' friends who attended the baptism and took them to Iceberg for hamburgers, French fries, and ice cream. Although the day was busy (Marcus had a soccer game later that day!) it all went very smoothly and the "Baptism Boy" felt special and loved.

May Days

May is a month filled with sports, parties, and end-of-year activities.  Marcus has 1 or 2 baseball games a week (machine pitch).  He's been consistently striking out but after some coaching from dad and our neighbor Shane, Marcus hit the ball every time at bat at his last game.  Now baseball is fun again!  Holden and Wether are on the same t-ball team.  They've only had 1 practice so far, but it was amusing to watch.  Holden writes with his left hand but seems to kick and throw with his right hand, so I never know if he should use is right or left-handed mitt.  I guess time will tell.  Wether kept asking to wear his mittens before we left for practice...I finally figured out he meant "mitt" and he wanted one on each hand.  Wether loves to play catch but would get hot and tired and come to me for lots of drinks.

Holden has been anticipating and constantly talking about his birthday since January.  Instead of a party this year, Holden and his best friend John spent much of the day together.  We began the day with breakfast in bed.  Holden wanted Cookie Crisp.  He also had bacon, strawberries, and yogurt.  We Facetimed with Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Tom for a few minutes before opening gifts.  Holden got a Toy Story watch, sno cone machine, inflatable pool, and a wooden car-making kit.  His big present was a tetherball, which all of the boys have been enjoying.  Kjell took Marcus, Holden, John, and Wether to "The Croods" followed by lunch at Tucanos for Holden and John.  John came over after lunch and the boys made sno cones.

On Sunday, the Florida McCords skyped with Holden to sing him Happy Birthday.  Pam, Joshua and our friends the Halls came over for dinner.  We had homemade pizza, salads, and cake and ice cream.   A highlight of the evening was when Marcus and Jane gave us a preview of their dance for the Dance Festival next week (a country dance) and Holden danced to "Minion Mambo" from "Despicable Me".  Later that evening Shawna helped me finish my quilt for Marianne - thank you!

We went to Alexander Eslava's "UP party".  Here we are at the photo op.

The Cascade Carnival is always a highlight of the year.  Marcus and his friend Chase waited in line together to ride the "Wizzer"
Holden turned 6!

Pam baked this beautiful cake

I took the kids to a Splash Pad Party at the Riverwoods after school on Friday.  Marcus sat in the dunking booth several times.
On Saturday, Kjell spent most of the day building me planter boxes for our front porch (pictures to come!).  We went out with the Hendersons for dinner on Saturday night and Kjell saw Iron Man 3 with Joshua and Mike Smith later that night.
On Sunday we visited the cemetary for Family Home Evening and enjoyed the acres of flowers and beautiful views of the valley.  The highlight was the abundance of bunnies.  I wish I had my camera handy to capture Wether chasing a giant tan bunny through the graves.
On Memorial Day we hiked to Stewart Falls early in the morning.  All the boys love hiking and were very excited when the waterfall came into view.  We ate lunch at the falls and the boys jumped in the stream and climbed the first tier.  Wether was slow and grumpy on the way back but made it all by himself (Port rode in the backpack).  Later that afternoon, I took Marcus and Holden to Seven Peaks for a swim.  They went on the waterslides over and over.  To top off a great weekend, we joined the Schauers for a delicious BBQ at their house.  Several of us spent quite a while trying to chip a golf ball into a garbage can about 25 ft away in order to win the $5 prize - Kjell did it!

2 Pregos!  Shawna is due in July and I am due in October with boys.  This is the 3rd time we've been pregnant together (although we didn't know each other with the first one)!

We had our Ward Fun Run on Saturday morning, which began and ended in our cul-de-sac.  Activities included running races for the children, a mile run, and a 2 mile run.  After the run, there was a pancake breakfast.  Kjell pushed Port in the stroller and ran with Marcus and Holden for the whole 2 miles.  I was planning on running 1 mile with Wether, but he insisted that we keep going.  As soon as we reached the turn around point he wanted to be carried.  He ran part of the way back and hitched a ride in a couple of jogging strollers!  Since I was in charge of the activity, I didn't get a chance to take any pictures, but Ashley (Zach's mom) covered for me once again!

Port just loves Zach's sister April.  We were talking in the cul-de-sac, and looked over to see this sight!

Father's Day Weekend

Orem Summerfest is a much-anticipated event at our house.  We saw the rides being set up days before the carnival, which prompted Wether to recall every one of the rides he went on last year.  We spent Friday evening at the carnival.  Besides Wether and Holden's t-ball game on Saturday, we attended the Grand Parade.  A short walk from our house, the parade never disappoints.  The boys really enjoyed themselves.

I didn't take any pictures on Father's Day.  Marcus helped me make Belgian waffles with fresh raspberries, whip cream, make a mango/coconut smoothie, and fry up some bacon for Daddy's breakfast in bed.  I had the boys fill at out "Meet My Dad" for Family Home Evening.  Marcus: How much does he weigh? - "300 lbs", What makes Daddy the best? - "movi theter, sharing lichiris (licorice), reseling (wrestling)", Where did you and Daddy meet? - "hostible (hospital)".  Holden: What does Daddy do for fun? - "Battleship", What is your favorite thing to do with Daddy - "camping hiking, Battleship, memory."  Wether: What does daddy do for fun? "Go to the carnival with me and ride on the ferris wheel.  Go to the parade", What does Daddy do at work?
"Do his work.  He gives me some fruit snacks."  What makes Daddy the best? "Wrestles".
Port begs me to take a picture of him every time I get the camera out

At Orem Summerfest.  These 2 couldn't get enough of the rides.  Marcus and Holden hung out with dad and went on the bigger rides and shot guns.

In the firetruck.  I absolutely couldn't get Port to get out of the firetruck.  I finally realized he was waiting for the "ride" to begin.

Wether refuses to ride his bike...until tonight.  I asked him if he wanted help riding his Spiderman bike, and to my surprise he said "yes."  We moved at a snails pace down the street as his brain processed the forward pedaling movement.  I left him on his own after that and he practiced for another 30 minutes or so.  By the evening he was riding around quite confidently and VERY proud of himself!

Not to be outdone, Port wanted a picture of himself in his car (fresh out of the bath).  He loves the car and plays with it almost daily (and can often be found pushing it around the neighborhood).

I bought this bench at a garage sale with some birthday money from Ruby (thank you!)  I have big plans to refinish it, add pillows, etc., but I didn't realize how rickety it is...I'm sure I can convince Kjell to reinforce it for me:-)

Here are the planters Kjell built for me for my birthday.  I plan to plant boxwoods in them, because they'll stay green year-round.

Tball and Bball Boys

Tball and Machine Pictch baseball have kept us busy this summer.  Holden and Wether are on the same tball team, the "Tigers," and have a game every Saturday.  Holden really looks forward to practices and games and has improved quite a bit over the season.  Although he definitely is left-handed when he writes, I wasn't sure whether he'd play baseball with his right or left hand.  Since he was equally bad with both hands, we stuck with favoring his left-hand for throwing and batting (a real advantage in baseball).  Holden had some great hits over the season and is slowly getting more comfortable throwing overhand, which was very unnatural for him for some reason.  He hit the ball over second base last game.
Wether's attention span lasts about 5 minutes each game, prompting Kjell to constantly try to refocus him on the game (he'll tell Wether he has to stand on a particular weed so he doesn't wander too far).  He's the youngest player and loves to bat and run around the bases.  He hits well almost every time and enjoys playing catch with mom at home.  Kjell wanted me to add that he tackles his teammates when someone else gets the ball before him while playing in the field!
Marcus has really struggled at his baseball games this year, which is a shame because he has athletic talent!  He does very well in the field, but when he gets up to bat he rarely hits the ball. He is more than capable of hitting the ball but between his fear of hurting his hands coupled with his lack of confidence, he most often strikes out.  In fact, there were many games when we left in frustration, not because he struck out, but because he decided before it was even his turn up to bat that he couldn't hit the ball, so he swung late.  This prompted many talks on "always trying your best" and "it's not about winning but having fun."  Kjell and I also spent hours pitching to him, which he enjoys, and added a few bribes in there for getting a base hit.  One more game left in the season - we'll see how it goes!
